Naim Doumit

Article and opinion

The ensemble of sculptures and pastels which Naim Doumit presents to us this year is truly the climax of a learned and patient research stimulated by a meditative sensitivity along with a disciplined imagination.

The works lift us to a world of idealistic perfection, a world situated in a context of demonstrations incarnating the manner through which the passage from one artistic mode to another in achieved; all in a frame of fanciful creations reproducing transient emotions.

Consequently, nothing is taken for granted and nothing inappropriate.

Through reproducing human situations in all their particularity and instantaneousness, the works seem to materialize the psychological attitudes made explicit through the works to the extent that the simplifications, the stylization, and the mutilations, molded by the artist appear to be indispensable for attaining the perfection of the work of creation.

Should we say that Naim Doumit is classic?

Certainly, on condition that classicism is considered to be not a mere slavish imitation of nature but rather a process of recreating reality void from fantasy and purified from any mannerism or peculiarity.

Timeless, yet cease not existing in time. Unprecedented, yet exceed not the limits of sobriety. Thus, the “Doumit” achievements are not only worthy of admiration but also of study.

Extracts from Press Articles

…Had it not been for a perceptive art teacher, Naim Doumit would not have become one of the few sculptors and quite a loss that would have been.

…The works are abstract, the style more fluid and they seem to have been poured rather than nervously built.

…Introducing volume into space is a far more delicate task than breaking off the mass surrounding it; therefore, space itself is worked into sculpture; thus the effect of abruptness is achieved and it appears perfectly normal for Naim Doumit’s sculptures to be beautiful.

… Smooth and simple dealing with themes enveloped with a warm austerity of expression that appeals to the sense of touch and evokes a mood of serenity that is rewarding to contemplate.

…The human figure that resides in every feminine shape exceeds the corporeal level to attain the spiritual dimension which spotlights the intensity of human emotions and well the incarnation of an atmosphere of metaphysical inquiries and aspirations.

…The works of Naim Doumit create a world of idealistic perfection.

… The clarity if expressive motion created by a poetic rhythm which makes obvious the notion of life in both its blissful and tragic dimensions.

… The beautiful combination between the strength of the movement and the tenderness of the lines and curves bestow upon Naim Doumit’s works a refined richness in expression.

… Cold stones transformed into warm faces wrapped in a veil of mystery, faces with no features, their beauty lies in their simplicity.
