Tricoter a Concert for Trio by Cag Erçag, Aysu Sadiqova and Zina Asfour in Beirut / Eglise St. Joseph Achrafiyeh on the 11th of March 2018 at 8:30 pm

The concert is sponsored by the Yunus Emre Cultural Institute in Beirut. The trio Tricoter is second-time AFAC award winner for the cd recording this year.

Program includes works by Iyad Mohammad, Haitham Sukkarieh, Tarek Younis as well as Shostakovich, Faure and de Falla

Zina Asfour

Jordanian pianist Zina Asfour studied musicology at the Sorbonne and piano at the Ecole Normale Alfred Cortot, Paris and Trinity College of Music, London with the head of the keyboard department the famous pianist Philip Fowke.

She has also studied with the renowned teachers Raymond Banning, Ruth Nuy (Claudio Arrau's student), Eric Vidonne, Andre Gorog, Colette Fernier, Ramzi Yassa, and had the chance to take masterclasses with world-famous pianists such as Pascal Roge, Billy Eidi, Eric le Sage, Kemal Gekic, Laurent Cabasso, Muza Rubackyte and Gulcin Onay.

Throughout her musical career, Zina works with several renowned musicians such as Stephan Moeller, Pierrick Boisseau, Cag Ercag, Tahir Aydogdu, Adrien Frasse Sombet, Kenan Tatlici, Mohammad Othman Sidiq, Dima Bawab, and Elena Laborenz.

In 2008 Zina founded Ateek which is an initiative encouraging new contemporary Arab composers and musicians. The Ateek Ensemble is also a part of this project introducing classical chamber music with an oriental flavor. In 2011 The Ateek Ensemble was awarded a sponsorship by AFAC to record their first album 'Troubadour' which included music by Arab contemporary composers such as Iyad Mohammad, Dia Succari, Haytham Sukkarieh, Tarek Younis and Joelle Khoury. Zina currently teaches and performs in Europe and the Middle East and is working on several Ateek projects such as "Raqs" a concert for two pianos to be performed in 2016.

Aysu Sadiqova

Azerbaijani qanun player, Aysu Sadiqova, took the course of qanun performing from Yaqut Mammadova at Music College of Azerbaijan National Conservatory. Afterwards, she took the Musicology and qanun performing courses with renowned Malik Mensurov and Yaqut Seyidova during her preparation for her Bachelor Degree at Azerbaijan National Conservatory. Furthermore, Aysu successfully completed her Master's degree at the Azerbaijan National Conservatory. Aysu performed with world-famous Azerbaijani National Artists such as Zabit Nabizade, Babek Nifteliyev, Teyyar Bayramov, Ehtiram Huseynov. Moreover, Aysu has been working with young musicians at Azerbaijan National Television and Radio Corporation.

In 2013, Aysu was awarded second prize at the International Mugam Festival held in Azerbaijan, and she successfully performed at the International Qanun Symposium held in Ankara in 2015. Currently Aysu performs as soloist and with Ensembles in Turkey and Azerbaijan ensemble in different cities such as Ordu, Fatsa and Arhavi as well as teaching qanun lectures at the Azerbaijan National Conservatory.

Cello

Çağ Erçağ entered the Hacettepe University State Conservatoire in 1986 and studied under Jozsef Györffy and Prof Doğan Cangal finishing the school with honors. During his education, he gave concerts in France, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Egypt and many other countries with the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra and had the opportunity to attend Lluis Claret’s master-class.

Erçağ performed with artists like Gürer Aykal, Fazıl Say, Ayla Erduran, Ayşegül Sarıca, Robert Cohen, Aleksander Rudin and Daniel Grosgurin and appeared at the 35th Istanbul Music Festival (2007) with the Borusan Chamber Orchestra as well as Cyprus, Eskişehir, and Mersin Music Festivals. He performed as a soloist with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic, Presidential Symphony, Izmir State Symphony, Bursa Regional Symphony, Antalya State Symphony Orchestras, Vienna Jeunesse Orchestra and the Şişli Municipal Orchestra in Strasbourg.

He was appointed solo cellist of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003. Apart from BIPO, he is also a member of the cello ensemble of four members established in 2002, Çellistanbul and the Borusan Quartet.

Together with Borusan Quartet for which Gerhard Schulz of the Alban Berg Quartet is a music advisor, they attended the master-classes of Maxim Vengerov, Joshua Epstein, Juilliard Quartet. In addition to their regular seasonal concerts at the Süreyya Opera and the Borusan Music House in Istanbul, they had many tours in Turkey as well as France, Germany, Austria, Italy, USA and many other countries. In May 2010 they were awarded the “Chamber Ensemble of the Year” at the Andante magazine’s Classical Music Awards. They also won the gold medal at the 2010 ICMEC International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition (USA) from among 88 other ensembles and performed at the Weill Recital Hall. Erçağ performed with the Borusan Quartet in cities like Montpellier, Milano, Strasbourg and Boston as well as Ankara Music, Antalya Piano, D-Marin (Bodrum), Istanbul Music, Merano (Italy), Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) Festivals an appeared as soloists with the Izmir, Istanbul, Bursa, Eskişehir Symphony Orchestras.

Çağ Erçağ plays a 1740 Petrus Guarneri cello the purchase of which architect-photographer Ahmet Ertuğ has contributed to in memory of his father’s love for classical music.

إياد عبدالحفيظ محمد هو مؤلف موسيقي أردني يعمل عضوا في الهيئة التدريسية للأكاديمية الأردنية للموسيقى. وهو يحمل درجة الماجستير في التأليف والدكتوراة في العلوم الموسيقية من أكاديمية بيلاروسيا للموسيقى. قام إياد بتأليف العديد من الأعمال للأوركسترا منها مجموعات الصالة المتنوعة وتتضمن "أنماط 1"، "تحولات"، "صلوات صامتة"، "رسومات لحنية"، "تهليلة" (بطلب من مهرجان موسيى آذار – برلين 2013) و"مولوي". له عدد من الأبحاث في أعمال المؤلف الألماني هلموت لاخنمن والموسيقى المعاصرة.

تم تأليف "ثلاث مقطوعات على هيئة سمكة قصيرة الذيل" بناء على طلب من فرقة عتيق في العام 2015. و"هيئة السمكة قصيرة الذيل" هي في الواقع إشارة إلى القالب الموسيقي الذي تم فيه تأليف كل من المقطوعات الثلاث والعمل بأكمله في الوقت نفسه، وهو قالب يتكون من مقطع متصاعد (Crescendo) طويل يليه مقطع مختصر هابط (decrescendo) مع تسلسل معاكس للجمل الموسيقية. أما المادة الموسيقية فمبنية على دمج بعض الأجناس الثلاثية والرباعية والخماسية التقليدية مع عناصر من تقنية الدوديكافونيا.

هيثم سكرية مؤلف وقائد أوركسترا أردني. قام بتأليف عدد من مقطوعات البيانو والاوركسترا والتي تم عرضها في الشرق الأوسط. قام بتأليف مجموعة من الأغاني والمقطوعات الموسيقية لأعمال تلفزية ومسرحية. حصل على درجة الماجستيربتقدير امتيازسنة 2007 والدكتوراه بتقديرمرتبة الشرف الأولى سنة 2011 من المعهد العالي للموسيقى -أكاديمية الفنون- بالقاهرة . شغل أستاذ التأليف الموسيقي في الأكاديمية الأردنية للموسيقى ، ومايسترو الأوركسترا الوطنية الأردنية التي قام بتأسيسها عام 1997 من خلال نقابة الفنانين الأردنيين. حصل على العديد من الجوائز والتكريم عن أعماله.
رقصة شرقية : تجميع بين الأسلوب الشرقي واستخدام المقامات العربية الأصيلة وبين المصاحبات الهارمونية لآلة البيانو، حيث قام المؤلف باستخدام تآلفات هارمونية تعطي الإحساس بالأجواء الشرقية، كما استخدم المؤلف ايقاع الفالس وايقاع الوحدة، وكان للزخارف التقنية دور هام في ابراز الإحساس العربي.

طارق يونس مؤلف أردني يتميز بأسلوب فريد في التأليف مستوحى بشكل أساسي من منطقة الهلال الخصيب وبتأثير كلاسيكي غربي ينعكس في مقطوعاته بوضوح. عقب تخرجه من Trinity College of Music حصل على الماجستير في موسيقى الشرق الأوسط من SOAS. يعيش في الوقت الحالي ما بين عمان ولندن، ويقوم بالتحضير لدكتوراه في العلاج الموسيقي في المجتمعات القبلية.

The Composers and the Music…

Haitham Sukkarieh is a Jordanian conductor and composer of mostly orchestral and piano works that have been performed in the Middle East.He obtained a Master’s Degree in Composition and Conducting with distinction in 2007 and in 2011 his Ph.D. in Composition and Conducting with the highest distinction both from the Arts Academy at the Music Conservatory in Cairo. Between 1997 and 2003, he taught composition and harmony at the Jordan Academy of Music. He established and conducted the Jordanian National Orchestra in 1997. Haitham received numerous awards and recognition for his works.

Iyad A. Mohammad is a Jordanian composer and member of the staff of the Jordan Academy of Music. He holds a Master's Degree in Composition and a Ph. D. in Fine Arts from the Belarus Academy of Music. Iyad has written a number of compositions for orchestra and various chamber ensembles including Patterns I, Metamorphoses, Silent Prayers, Klangfiguren, Mawlawi, Tahlila (commissioned by Maerzmusic Festspiel – Berlin 2013) and is the author of several publications on the oeuvre of Helmut Lachenmann and contemporary music.

Three Pieces if the Form of a Short-Tailed Fish was commissioned by Ateeq Ensemble and composed in 2015. The form of a short-tailed fish actually refers to the musical form of each of the three pieces as well as that of the cycle as a whole; the form of a longer crescendo section followed by a diminished decrescendo section in the backward motion. The musical material of the work combines Arabic modes, traditional tri-, tetra- and penta-chords with elements of dodecaphonic technique.

Tarek Younis After graduating from Trinity College of Music, Jordanian composer Tarek Younis worked in many fields related to the music industry in Jordan and abroad. His compositions, research in ethnic music of the Near and Middle East -in which his Masters from SOAS is in-, and his interest in education have sparked a unique compositional technique that is inherently Levantine in identity with many influences from western classical traditions. He is currently based in Amman and London and is working on a doctorate in Composition for Music Therapy in Ethnic communities.
