This "Swiss Art Talk" focuses on the impact that an artistic initiative can have on tourism and therefore the economy of a city. Mr. Laurent Wehrli, Syndic de la Commune de Montreux in Switzerland, gives the example of his town, which is particularly famous for the Montreux Jazz Festival. Since its debut in 1967, the festival has been proud of the presence of such great musicians as Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Prince, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Santana and Stevie Wonder. The festival attracts more than 200,000 people to Montreux every summer.

Speaker bio:
Mr. Laurent Wehrli is a Swiss politician. He is a member of the Liberal-Radical Party and is elected to the National Council in 2015. Initially a journalist, he is the Mayor of Montreux since 2011, a city whose dynamism and success he has amplified. Experienced manager, he has been a member of the municipality since 2001, in charge of Economy, Culture, Tourism and Sport. Mr. Wehrli owns a private project management and communications company.

Ce « Swiss Art Talk » se focalise sur l’impact que peut avoir une initiative artistique sur le tourisme et par conséquent l’économie d’une ville. M. Laurent Wehrli, Syndic de la Commune de Montreux en Suisse, donne l’exemple de sa ville qui est notamment réputée pour le Montreux Jazz Festival. Depuis ses débuts en 1967, le festival peut s’enorgueillir de la présence de grands musiciens comme Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Prince, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Santana ou Stevie Wonder. Le festival attire plus de 200'000 personnes à Montreux chaque été.

M. Laurent Wehrli est une personnalité politique suisse. Il est membre du Parti libéral-radical et est élu au Conseil National en 2015. Journaliste de profession, il est, depuis 2011, le Syndic de la Commune de Montreux, dont il a amplifié le dynamisme et la réussite. Gestionnaire expérimenté, il siège à la municipalité depuis 2001, en charge de l’Economie, de la Culture, du Tourisme et du Sport. M. Wehrli est propriétaire d'une société privée de conduite de projets et de communication.
