Born in Beirut, Lebanon, 1957.

Introduced to photography by family

Jamal started his professional career as a photojournalist in 1977.

1977 till 1980: working as a photojournalist for local newspapers.
1980 till 1987: working as a photojournalist for Associated Press.
1987 till present: working as a photojournalist for Reuters in 1987 where he became and still Chief photographer for Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan.

Covered a wide variety of photo assignments ranging from Lebanon’s Civil war (1977-1990) and the war in Iraq (1991-2004), passing by Sudan, Yemen, Libya, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan, Italy, Paris, Spain. Covering Fashion and sports took also an interesting part of his career.

He has participated in several individual and group exhibitions in Lebanon and other countries such as Geneva, Holland, China, USA, UK, Dubai, Jordan.

President of Press Photographer Syndicate in Lebanon from 1998 till 2008.

He has given numerous seminars on photojournalism throughout for training in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Dubai, Syria, Kuwait, and Oman.

His work has featured in international magazines and newspapers such as: “The Independent, The Guardian, International Herald Tribune, New York Times, Washington Post, and Reuters books.

Jamal has published a new book with his son Ayman and his wife Karah, Lebanon Beauty Beyond Belief LBBB, and the second new book Seasons of Lebanon.

Jamal won twice the first award of the Lebanese Artists Association - Painters and sculptors.

Jamal lives and works in Beirut.
