Nasri Shamseddine: The Legacy

Lebanese singer Nasri Shamseddine was born on June 27, 1927 in Joun, a small village in Mount Lebanon. He inherited his vocal talents from his mother and started singing at the age of six. He took part in choirs and plays at school, and he taught himself how to play the oud. Nasri finished high school, and then started to teach. However, because he associated everything with music, it was without surprise that he was fired for singing to his students in class.

Throughout the years, Nasri continued to try new jobs, but lost them due to his love of music. In 1950, when he was twenty-three, Nasri traveled to Egypt, which at the time was the musical center of the Arab world. There, he worked on his vocals and also became more familiar with playing the oud. Upon his return to Lebanon, Nasri applied for a chorus position at a radio station. This was where he met Fairouz and the Rahbani brothers, and started working with the famous singer. The duo sang together on radio stations before heading to the theater. They performed together in 1960 in the Lebanon Cedars as well as in Baalbak.

In 1967, Nasri and Fairouz started their annual musicals at the Picadilly Theater in Beirut. He also performed in Beyt Eddine with Sabah, Wadih Al Safi, Majdala and many others. Still though, Nasri remained unsatisfied, so he took on a solo career as well as major roles in three movies. Additionally, in order to be recognized internationally, he traveled to Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America. He declared that his favorite country was Brazil.

Nasri adhered to the Lebanese dialect in his songs, which was very attractive to the common Lebanese public who were mostly from the countryside and mountainous regions. However, Nasri’s singing career was an uphill battle. Even though he grew up in a small town and his surroundings were not very supportive of his career choice, his determination helped him find the success he desired. His career as a singer, performer and actor continued for thirty years.

Today, twenty nine years later, his songs, movies, and plays are still broadcasted all over the world.

Nasri Shamseddine had always dreamt of dying on stage and his dream became a sad reality when he suffered an aneurism on stage in Damascus, Syria on March 18, 1983.

Nasri Shamseddine is a legend, with a unique voice that has no equivalent. He is considered to be one of the greatest Arab singers of all time, and he will never be forgotten.

Le chanteur libanais Nasri Shamseddine est né le 27 juin 1927 dans le petit village de Joun au Mont Liban. Il hérite ses talents vocaux de sa mère et commence à chanter à l’âge de six ans. Il fait partie de groupes de chant choral ainsi que de drame à l’école et c’est là qu’il apprend à jouer l’oud. Nasri termine l’école secondaire et commence ensuite à enseigner. Par contre, puisqu’il intègre même la musique dans ses leçons, c’est sans surprise qu’il est congédié lorsqu’il chante à ses élèves en classe.

Au fil des ans, Nasri continue de perdre des emplois, toujours en raison de son amour pour la musique. En 1950, alors que Nasri a 23 ans, il voyage en Égypte, qui est autrefois le centre musical du monde arabe. Il travaille sur sa voix et devient de plus en plus familier avec l’oud. Quand il retourne au Liban, il pose sa candidature dans une radio recherchant un choriste. C’est là qu’il rencontre Fairouz et les frères Rahbani et qu’il commence à travailler avec la fameuse chanteuse. Le duo chante sur des chaînes de radio avant de se diriger au théâtre. Ils performent ensemble en 1960 aux Cèdres du Liban et à Baalbak.

En 1967, Nasri et Fairuz débutent leurs pièces musicales annuelles au Théâtre de Picadilly à Beirut. Il performe aussi au Beyt Eddine avec Sabah, Wadih Al Safi, Majdala et beaucoup d’autres. Nasri demeure cependant insatisfait et amorce une carrière solo comme chanteur et joue un rôle important dans trois films. Afin de se faire reconnaître globalement, Nasri voyage aussi en Afrique, en Asie, en Australie, en Europe, en Amérique du Nord ainsi qu’en Amérique du Sud. Il déclare que son pays favori est le Brésil.

Nasri s’assure d’adhérer au dialecte libanais dans ses chansons, attirant le public libanais, qui provient principalement des régions montagneuses et des campagnes. La carrière n’est malheureusement pas sans difficultés, mais il n’abandonne jamais. Il continue de convaincre le monde du spectacle ainsi que sa famille de son talent. Même si ceux avec qui il grandit dans son village ne l’encouragent pas, sa détermination l’aide à trouver le succès qu’il désire et il poursuit son amour du chant et du théâtre pour trente ans. Aujourd’hui, vingt-neuf ans après son décès, ses chansons, ses films ainsi que ses pièces sont encore diffusés partout dans le monde.

Nasri souhaite toujours de mourir sur scène et son rêve est une triste réalité lorsqu’il meurt suite à un aneurisme à Damas, en Syrie le 18 mars 1983.

Nasri Shamseddine est une légende avec une voix unique qui ne peut pas trouver d’équivalent. Il est, de nos jours, considéré comme un des meilleurs chanteurs du monde arabe et il ne sera jamais oublié.

السيرة الذاتية للفنان اللبناني نصري شمس الدين

ولد الفنان نصرالدين مصطفى شمس الدين في بلدة جون الشوف في 27 حزيران سنة 1927 من اسرة عريقة من عائلة المشايخ وهو السادس بين إخوته التسعة. ورث جمال الصوت من والدته التي شجعته منذ صغره عندما لاحظت عشقه لسماع الأغاني وحفظها فاشترت له عودا وساعدته على صقل موهبته. درس نصري في مدرسة جون الإبتدائية وكان يغني دائما لرفاقه في الصف. بعدها بدأ يغني في أعراس وحفلات الضيعة حيث لقب بمطرب الضيعة. إنتقل نصري إلى مدرسة المقاصد في صيدا وأنهى المرحلة الثانوية. في سن السابعة عشر مارس مهنة التعليم في مادة الأدب العربي في مدرسة شبعا ومن ثم في مدرسة الجعفرية في صور. بعد حفلة غنائية أقامها لتلامذته في الصف مدندنا على العود خيّر من قبل مدير المدرسة بين التعليم والفن. فما كان عليه إلّا أن يقدم استقالته ويتبع ما أحبّ وعشق من فن وطرب وغناء. إنتقل بعدها إلى بيروت وتعرّف على شركة نحاس فيلم وسافر معهم إلى مصر حيث عمل مع فرقة اسماعيل ياسين وتابع دراسة الموسيقى مدة ثلاث سنوات. ثم سافر إلى بلجيكا للغرض نفسه وعاد إلى لبنان حاملا دبلوما بالوسيقى والغناء. لكن مساحة العمل الفني في ذلك الوقت كانت ضيّقة مما اضطره أن يعمل في مصلحة الإتصالات الهاتفية. جاءت الصدفة أن قرأ إعلانا في إحدى الصحف بأن إذاعة الشرق الأدنى بحاجة إلى " كورس " فسارع إليها ليقف أمام لجنة مؤلفة من الأخوين رحباني , عبد الغني شعبان وحليم الرومي. وقع خيار الأخوين رحباني عليه وبدأ مشواره الفني الذي دام ثلاثون عاما.

انطلق نصري مع فيروز بتقديم اسكتشات قصيرة أهمها ( كاسر مزراب العين - يا سروجي - براد الجمعية - حلوة وأتومبيل - سبع ونصري ومخول ). بحلفك يا طير بالفرقة كانت أول أغنية غنّاها نصري من ألحان فيلمون وهبي. كما إنه قام بتلحين بعض أغانيه. بدأ أعماله المسرحية الغنائية مع الأخوين رحباني وفيروز في بعلبك والأرز والبيكاديللي حيث كان أول مهرجان قام به هو موسم العز في بعلبك سنة 1960. ومن ثم عودة العسكر - البعلبكية - جسر القمر - الليل والقنديل - بياع الخواتم - دواليب الهوا - فخرالدين - هالا والملك - الشخص - جبال الصوان - يعيش يعيش - صح النوم - ناطورة المفاتيح - ناس من ورق - قصيدة حب - المحطة - لولو - ميس الريم - بترا . شارك في مهرجانات دمشق الدولية وحفلات مصر - الأردن - باريس ولندن. من أعماله السينمائية ( بياع الخواتم - سفربرلك - بنت الحارس ). كما أحيا مع صباح ووليد غلمية مهرجان الوهم في جبيل. من أجمل أعماله التلفزيونية " ساعة وغنيي ". أسس نصري فرقة جون للرقص الشعبي التي عملت معه في مهرجانات بيت الدين وأهمها (وادي الغزّار - جوار الغيم - مدينة الفرح - أيام صيف). قدّم العديد من الأغاني الخاصة وتعاون مع معظم الملحنين والمؤلفين في ذلك الوقت أمثال حليم الرومي - فيلمون وهبة - زكي ناصيف - عفيف رضوان - ملحم بركات وغيرهم. لديه أكثر من خمسمئة أغنية مسجلة في الإذاعات العربية واللبنانية. أقام العديد من الحفلات الغنائية في لبنان وفي عدد كبير من البلدان العربية والأجنبية. حصل على عدة أوسمة من لبنان - مصر - الكويت - سوريا - الأردن - البرازيل وباريس.

من أهم هواياته المطالعة , الزراعة وخصوصا الزيتون حيث كان يملك معصرة للزيت. كما عرف عنه بالصيّاد الماهر وملك لعبة الداما وطاولة الزهر.

تزوج من يسر الداعوق سنة 1956 وانجب منها مصطفى والماظة (توأم), مي , ماهر , ريما ولينا (توأم).
توفي نصري على المسرح في دمشق في 18 آذار 1983 إثر نزيف دماغي. وبذلك حقق أمنية طالما رددها بأن يموت وهو يعانق الخشبة التي عشقها وقدّم عليها أجمل ما لديه.

بوفاته فقد الفن اللبناني والعربي مطربا وممثلا مسرحيا ترجم أعمال الأخوين رحباني بنجاح. تميز بصوته الرائع وحضوره اللامع مما جعله العامود الفقري الأول للمسرح الفلكلوري اللبناني. فهو بحق عملاق المسرح الغنائي في لبنان والوطن العربي.
