My history and relation with art in general by Rana Bissat:

I grew up in a home where arts were given the same respect and importance as the basic needs of life, like eating and sleeping. This way of seeing life made me believe that one can and should dare to live up to his/her own ideas, no matter how idealistic they may seem to other people. I started drawing in early childhood. The continuous and true support of my parents {and my mother is the holder of a Doctorate in the History of Art and Architecture, not less!} and relatives, since then, gave me the courage to think of living from it. Once in university, after a Minor in Graphic Design, I completed a Major in Fine Arts.

I always thought that I would end up simply painting what I see because I believe that art and real life are always mixed together and that sometimes this line is unclear, especially when one calmly takes the time to study nature itself. The way the colors are distributed in it, and especially, the way the Sun makes everything glow … It is a silent celebration … Admiring this detail and precision found in nature, I wished to try to reach it one day … And I was the first one to be surprised that, as the semester went on, I tended more and more towards the exact opposite, abstraction!

While painting, all I wanted was to express what I felt, through “wild” colors ordered by straight, abstract shapes … Strange how we sometimes surprise ourselves! I was getting nearer and nearer to the style of the late Piet Mondrian! And I expect any change in the future!

My aim is to find my own style, even if our teachers patiently and kindly told us that this takes time. I know that this road is full of unexpected ups and downs, but I believe that the wise and cautious advice which they gave us are keys to rely on, concerning all the matters of life.

“Rana Bissat réalise l’épée du 40ème “Immortel”:

Rana Bissat est diplômée de la LAU {Section Beaux-Arts}. Spécialisée dans la peinture, le graphisme et la sculpture, elle participe aux expositions collectives. En Décembre 2005, elle rencontre, par le biais de ses parents, le Professeur Christian Robin, Spécialiste en Histoire Ancienne Yéménite et en Langues Sémitiques et Arabes. A l’occasion de la Consécration de ce dernier, à l’Académie Française en tant que 40ème “Immortel”, Rana Bissat lui propose de confectionner l’Épée d’Honneur. C’est une épopée exceptionelle, qu’elle ne s’attendait pas à vivre …
La période de Décembre 2005 a Juillet 2006 fut entièrement consacrée a la conception graphique de l’épée. Le Professeur Robin et Rana Bissat, correspondaient, alors, par mail sur chaque détail que devait comporter l’objet d’art. C’est en Juillet 2006, que put enfin commencer la phase active du projet. “J’ai fait beaucoup de recherches sur la culture Yéménite, où on retrouve souvent le bouquetin. Puis, le Professeur tenait absolument à ce qu’il y ait des écritures en Himyarite, l’ancienne langue Yéménite”, explique Rana.

Ni elle, ni personne d’autre d’ailleurs, ne s’attendait cependant aux évènements tragiques de Juillet dernier. Son cousin, Rafiq Kallab, Ebèniste, allait se charger de la confection de l’épée. Les gravures de cette dernière devant être faites au laser, ont finalement été gravées a la main et, pour cause, l’usine située a Batroun, exposée aux bombes ayant fermé ses portes. “Il y avait un parallèle entre les détonations des bombes et les coups portés par Rafiq pour forger l’épée”, raconte Rana. En Décembre 2006 , l’épée de bronze et d’ébène , fut enfin terminée . Mais Rana ne fut pas au bout de ses peines. Il fallait maintenant la faire parvenir au Professeur . Aucune société n’acceptait alors de transporter cette “arme” vers Paris. Le Professeur Robin eut finalement recours à l’Ambassade de France afin de permettre a la jeune fille d’accéder a sa demande, par Valise Diplomatique. Mais le récit ne s’arrête pas la . N’ayant pas de nouvelles du Professeur , Rana s’inquiétait au sujet de l’épée . Puis, deux semaines plus tard, elle apprend par mail que le Secrétaire Perpétuel de l’Académie Française, avait bien reçu l’épée, mais que ce dernier était à l’hôpital, dans un coma profond, des suites d’une crise cardiaque. ”

“TOUT EST BIEN QUI FINIT BIEN"

Paris, au Salon de la Sorbonne : 300 personnes assistent à la Cérémonie de Consécration du Professeur Robin en tant que 40ème Académicien. Cette fameuse épée fait l’objet d’un long discours, celui “d’une épée qui a tenu bon, tel le Liban qui surmonte ses instabilités “ {d’après le discours du Professeur Robin lors de la Cérémonie}. Un sentiment de fierté parcourut, alors, Rana Bissat, porte-parole de l’art Libanais, heureuse d’avoir mené à terme ce projet exceptionnel.”
