Beirut
is a focus of activity at the local, regional and
international level, with a great number of events
held in the city center.
Conferences
embracing a variety of topics from business to economics,
politics or culture, culminate in such important
meetings as the Arab Summit, or the Francophone
Conference with the dialogue of cultures as its
theme.
Beirut city center is hoping to host in the future
the Formula One Grand Prix race. Large-scale events
also include international book fairs, music festivals
and beauty contests; regional car rallies; trade,
design and professional exhibitions; the Souk Al
Barghout flea market, now a Beirut downtown tradition;
as well as Heritage Day, and arts and crafts festivals.
Culture
features high in downtown Beirut, with theatre and
musical performances, art and photography exhibitions,
book launches, reading days and story-telling events
regularly held.
Leisure
activities range from international marathons and
sponsored walking events to cats' walks, dog shows
and other shows involving acrobats, jugglers and
marionettes, chess competitions, gastronomic festivals
and gala dinners.
