1900-1960: Photographic practices in Lebanon
An exhibition of photographs presented and produced by the Arab Image Foundation
Head of exhibition: Akram Zaatari
This exhibition presents the unseen work of seven Lebanese photographers: five professional photographers having practiced between the years 1930 and 1960, and two amateur photographers who photographed their families and social surroundings between the years 1950 and 1985.
The work of Selim Abu Izzeddin, Antranik Anouchian, Najib el Ghsayni, Camille el Kareh, Marie el Khazen, Hashem el Madani and Chafic el Soussi that has been preserved by the Arab Image Foundation, gives an idea of photographic practices in Lebanon.
The Arab Image Foundation aims to make its collection accessible to the public through the wide spectrum of activities it initiates, among which are exhibitions, publications, videos, a website and an online image database. It also seeks to further encourage critical approaches to reading and interpreting photographs.
