Maha Bayrakdar El Khal

Curriculum vitae

Born in Damascus, Syria, in February, Constellation of the Fish.

Married to the author Youssef el Khal, now deceased. Two children, a daughter Ward and a son Youssef.

Obtained the Diploma of the Center for Fine Arts, Department of Illustration, at Damascus.

Graduated in Business Administration in the University of Munich, Germany.

- Worked on Syrian Radio and Syrian TV as producer and presenter of cultural programs, including ones about poetry.

- Worked on Lebanese Radio as producer and presenter of cultural programs, including ones about poetry.

- Worked in the Lebanese press as author and illustrator for the magazine Feyrouz.

- Was editor-in-chief of the review Iwan, specialized in the arts and interior decoration.

- Was editor-in-chief of the intellectual, cultural and artistic review Al-Jidar.

- Three publications of poetry, Eshbat al Meleh, Rahil al-Anaser, as-Samt.

- Individual exhibitions: twelve exhibitions, in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and the Arabian Gulf.

- Collective exhibitions: thirty-three exhibitions, in Lebanon, Syria and the Arabian Gulf.

- Wrote and illustrated books for children.

- Composed songs for children and for adults.

- Participated in the Merbad Festival, Baghdad, and the Al Mahaba Festival, Syria.

- Numerous trophies of honor gained in Lebanon and Syria.

- Order of Merit medal received from Emil Lahoud, President of Lebanon.

- Member of the Lebanese Writers’ Union and of the Syrian Writers’ Union.

- Organized some seventy-seven evenings of poetic readings in Lebanon, Syrian and the Arabian Gulf.

At present without regular employment so as to be free for personal authorship and illustration.

- Now working on a TV drama entitled At-Ta’er al-Maksour.
