 Jacqueline
Jabre (Watercolorist)
Jacqueline Jabre is known
for her delicate landscapes and dainty village scenes. Her works
show the influence of a long stay in Far East, where she learned
to paint on rice paper. Her paintings are like lace on the bride’s
gown. Critic Gabriel Merret believes that Jabre’s fresh landscapes,
painted amid the tumult of Lebanon, exemplify the Lebanese caprice
of ”smiling in the face of hostile destiny”.
Biography:
• Studied at
the Department of Arts (AUB) under the direction of the Pr Frick
(1959-1961).
• Apprenticeship of the Chinese pictorial technique with the well-known
Chinese painter Pr. Chen.

From 1960 to
1962, she was the student of Pr. Frick. She has been initiated to
the chinese technique of the Chinese painting in Manila, in 1965.
She figured at Lebanon Exhibition – The look of the painters- 200
years of Lebanese paintings, in Paris in 1989.
She showed her paintings in personal exhibition, of which:

De 1960 à
1962, elle fut élève de Frick. Elle s’ est initiée
à la technique de la peinture chinoise à Manille,
en 1965.

réalise une peinture sans prétention déclarée
autre que la recherche d’une certaine transparence romantique.
Présentation
de ses Oeuvres:
Seuls les peintres d’icônes, et de murailles
avaient maintenu jusqu’au XIXe siècle au Liban une lignée
artistique qui trouvait en Phénicie ses sources postnéolithiques.
Avec Srour, Salibi, Corm, l’Italie inspira les dernières
décades du siècle passé. Puis vint le renouveau.
Le XXe siècle fut enrichi par l’Ecole de
Paris : Gémayel, Ounsi, Farroukh, Hoyeck en furent les doyens
jusqu’à ce que l’ Ecole américaine de New York inspirât
nos derniers accrochages. Plus d’une centaine de peintres avaient
entre-temps souvent exposé avec bonheur. Ils se trouvent
parmi nous dans nos cadres quotidiens.
Pourtant, la Chine n’avait pas encore apporté
dans l’œuvre des peintres du Liban les courants de son art multimillénaire.
On aurait d’ailleurs, tant ils sont personnels, difficilement imaginé
comment.
D’un long séjour
en Extrême-Orient Jacqueline JABRE, familière des peintures
sur papier de riz apporte les touches délicates de feuillages
suggérés et de bambous ocellés.
Sous son regard les toits de la montagne et les paysages se découvrent
des identités complémentaires où les formes
frémissent et bruissent aux attouchements du pinceau.
Il s’agit du corollaire de ce que Fujita voyait
en débarquant à Paris. Les sphères s’inversent.
Une œuvre d’art ne naît pas autrement.
