Kobeissy (1909 - 1991) - Auto - Portrait
Born in the small South
Lebanon village of Zebdine, Ali Kobeissy has always lived in close
contact with nature, drawn as it were by the magical effect of a
love-potion. Thus it is that his life has been spent amidst almond
trees in blossom and olive groves, fig trees and vines, pine forest
and fields of wheat. He spent some time in the various studios of
the artists of his generation (Farroukh, Serour, and so on) and
very soon acquired a style of his own.
Witness of an
epoch on the way to extinction, Kobeissy fixes it in his paintings,
tracing with touching sincerity a world on the wane and celebrating
the implantation of man in time and space, the secret which links
man to this holy Earth that the artist represents in all its splendour,
evoking thereby his own yearning after his origins. He gives a poetic
account of traditional rural life, the pasturing of livestock in
the silence of mountains, flashes of vivid colour on green grass.
He perpetuates in our memories - and often in narrative form - those
scenes buried in the past, such as the queue waiting at the well
or the 'lesson' given by the old cheikh of the village, an imposing
master in his great turban who grasps his stick with an air of great
severity. Kobeissy's still-life, on the other hand, recreates the
mysterious reflections of light, evidence of a perfected technique.

Né à
Zebdine, petit village du Liban Sud, Ali Kobeissy a vécu
en côtoyant la nature; il semble qu'un filtre d'amour les
ait unis; ainsi s'est déroulée sa vie entre les amandiers
en fleurs et les oliviers, les figuiers et les vignobles, les forêts
de pins et les champs de blé. Il a fréquenté
les différents ateliers des artistes de sa génération
(Farroukh Serour...). et très vite acquit son style propre.
Témoin d'une époque en voie de disparition,
Kobeissy la fixe dans ses tableaux, retraçant avec une sincérité
touchante un monde expirant, commémorant l'enracinement de
l'homme avec le temps et l'espace, le secret le liant à cette
Terre sacrée qu'il représente dans toute sa splendeur,
évoquant ainsi sa nostalgie des origines. Il relate peoetiquement
la vie rurale traditionnelle, les pâturages, le bétail
dans le silence des montagnes, le reflet des couleurs chatoyantes
sur l'herbe verte. Il perpétue en nous le souvenir de scènes
enfouies dans le passé et souvent anecdotiques lorsqu'il
peint l'attente devant le puits ou la "leçon" donnée
par le vieux Cheikh du village, un grand maître imposant,
enturbanné, tenant un bâton d'un air sévère.
Quant à ses natures mortes, elles recréent les réfections
mystérieuses de la lumière et témoignent d'une
technique élaborée.

الراحل علي قبيسي
ولد علي قبيسي في زبدين احدى قرى
منطقة النبطية سنة ١٩٠٧
تلقى دروسه في اللغة العربية في كتّاب القرية على يد والده الشيخ احمد
قبيسي
توفى والده وهو في الثامنة من عمره فاضطر الى العمل في بيروت مبكراً
احتضنه عمر بك الداعوق وسهل له سبيل التعرف الى الفنان مصطفى فروخ حيث
تردد على محترفه لبضعة اشهر
تتميز حياته بالعصامية وتجمع طريقته في الرسم بين الاسلوبين الأكاديمي
والفطري
لم يبدأ بالمشاركة في عرض أعماله ٳلا في أواخر السبعينات حيث اشترك
لأول مرة في معرض "شارع المكحول" في بيروت
شارك في عدة معارض جماعية أقامها كاليري شاهين في لبنان والبرازيل :

سرور...) لكنه سرعان
ما اكتسب أسلوبه
الخاص.
عاصر حضا رة
في طريق الزوال
فجسدها في لوحاته
راسماً بصدق
مؤثر عالماً
يحتضر، مبرزا
ً تأصل الانسان
بالزمان والمكان
والسر الذي
يربطه بهذه
الأرض المقدسة
فيبرزها بكامل
عظمتها معبراً
في الوقت نفسه
عن حنينه الى
الجذور. انه
يروي بشاعرية
ظاهرة الحياة
الريفية التقليدية،
المروج، الماشية
في سكون الجبال،
انعكاس الألوان
المتقلبة على
العشب الأخضر.
وحين يرسم علي
قبيسي مشهد
الانتظار أمام
البئر أو مشهد
الدرس الذي
يلقنه شيخ القرية
المسن، المعلم
الكبير المهيب،
المعمم، بيده
عصا وعلى وجهه
قساوة بارزة،
فانه يجدد فينا
ذكرى مناظر
مدفونة في الماضي
غالباً ما تكون
طريفة. أما بالنسبة
للوحاته التي
تمثل الطبيعة
الميتة، فهي
تخلق من جديد
انعكاسات ضوئية
غامضة وتشهد
على تقنية بالغة
الاتقان.
